YOUNG SPORTS LEADERS

At All Souls, we have Year 6 Young Sports Leaders as part of our PE provision, who regularly meet with the PE Lead to discuss any ideas regarding physical education.  Young Sports leaders have an opportunity to share their own thoughts and opinions with the PE Lead and collectively agree on any decisions that are made.

Young Sports Leaders apply at the start of each academic year by writing a letter of application stating why they think they would make an excellent candidate for the job and most importantly, why they want to be one!

Once applications are received, the Young Sports Leaders are trained, by the YMCA, to lead activities and games with younger children and are taught the important qualities that are needed when working with young people.  After passing their First Aid Training, and YSL assessment, they will sign a contract and receive their red t-shirts.  The Young Sports Leaders will then be able to work with Key Stage 1 children, during lunchtimes, to lead games and ensure playtimes are inclusive for everyone, and that no child is left alone with no one to play with.  This role develops our core values of wisdom, compassion, perseverance and compassion, as well as building their confidence and communication skills throughout the year.

Sports Leaders also help to organise and lead events such as Sports Day and intra-school competitions.
